Jim joined the RCN as a Cadet in 1954 through the "Venture Plan" and
graduated 2 years later, a member of the first Venture class. He
subsequently trained with the USN and served in HMCS Bonaventure
(Canada's only aircraft carrier), VS-881, and VS-880 as well as Base Ops
and VU-32 and played football with the Shearwater Flyers. Jim later served in NDHQ,
a tour in UN Headquarters NY and spent many of his 37 year career with
the Trenton Air Transport Group flying Hercules aircraft and in related
staff positions.
Just before the
Naval Air Reunion in Wolfville, NS, ...in
September 2003, ....Jim was informed that he
had cancer (esophagus). After January, his decline seemed to be extremely rapid,
but his passing was peaceful.
He & Val retired in the Trenton area. Memorial service was held at the
Albury Church on Saturday 27 March. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to
the Canadian Cancer Society and/or the Albury United Church at
2681 Rednersville Rd., County Road 3, RR#1, Carrying
Place, Ontario, K0K 1L0. |
