Mal McCulloch (Class of '61) attended the Memorial Service, his observations follow:
Gentlemen,
It was an honour for me to represent you at Roger's funeral, today. The ceremony was extremely well attended and beautifully executed with touching and sometimes amusing testimonials from family members and friends. It was evident to me, having not seen Roger since I left the RCN in 1966, that he was very well respected among his colleagues and his many friends. Many mentioned his attributes as a free thinker who was never afraid to challenge inept authority. He, of course, was a dedicated husband to Nancy and a loving father and grandfather. He had a fulfilling life and died with peace of mind. Spotted amongst the more than 100 mourners were: Larry and Gail Ashley, Tim Porter, Butch and Val Miller, Jim and Lorraine Cantley, Bud Maclean, Al and Dorothy MacIntosh, Glen Cook and Wilf's son, Will, who was in uniform.
Special mention should be given to Nancy who was composed and who graciously received all of the attendees. She has handled the whole sad ordeal admirably. Her sister was present from Vancouver as was Roger's brother.
These occasions always put one in mind of ones own mortality, especially when it concerns a peer and classmate. I wish you all health and happiness as we sprint gloriously to the finish line.
