Norman G.A. Anderson
Born: November 1922
Died: 26 February 2021
It is with profound sadness that the family of Norman G.A. Anderson announces his peaceful passing on February 26th, 2021 in Victoria, BC.
He leaves to mourn his daughters, Chardel Farrell and Gaynor (John) Downie, his four granddaughters, Shantel (Matt), Corinna (Scott), Nicole, Danielle, and his two great-granddaughters, Sophie and Penelope, numerous family and friends. Pre-deceased by his lovely wife of 66 years, Catherine, his parents, and four siblings.
Norman was born in Tofino, BC in 1922 and moved to Victoria in 1926. He attended Beacon Hill, Sir James Douglas, and Victoria High schools.
In September 1939, Dad went to sea in RCGS Estevan. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in January 1940 as a Boy Seaman, and served throughout the 2nd WW and in the Korean Theatre. He served in H.M.C. Ships Prince Henry, Swift Current, Iroquois, Crusader, Ontario, Athabascan, Haida, Ste. Therese, as well as H.M.S. Reward. Dad also served in shore establishments H.M.C.S. Naden, Cornwallis, Stadacona, Niobe, Venture, as well as H.M.S Excellent and Feldgling, retiring after 32 years as a Lt. Cdr. (G).
After leaving the Service, Dad worked for Saanich Municipality for 12 years. Dad's happiest times were spent at Royal Colwood Golf Club, where he and Mom were members for over 40 years. They also enjoyed cruising to new ports and seeing a good portion of the world. Dad's sense of humour and his great big personality will be sorely missed.
There will be no Celebration of Life at this time.
