PALTRIDGE, George D. H. – Passed away suddenly at North Bay General Hospital on 19 July 2010 as a result of complications following surgery at age 71.
Retired Naval Lt. Commander G. D. H. Paltridge relocated from Victoria, BC to North Bay following the 1995 NBCI&VS High School Reunion to be with his high school sweetheart Sylvia (Walbridge) Ross. They were married in Pahrump, Nevada on 19 March 2003. George was born in North Bay and lived on Vancouver Island for 40 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Ena Paltridge. He will be dearly missed and remembered always by his loving wife, Sylvia, step-sons Frank Ross (Glenda) and Dave Ross, step-grandchildren Jaimie and Evan Fitzer-Ross, Jessica McLeod, Jennifer (Scott) Edworthy, life long friend and best buddy, Harry Ferneyhough and special “daughter” Krista McLeod. For the past ten years George enjoyed travelling in winter in a small RV, often spending 5 or 6 months on the road like gypsies along with their stuffed dog “Chester”.
He will be fondly remembered for his keen sense of humour, his positive outlook on life, his wonderful cooking, and his computer abilities that made him an “almostexpertgeek”. The following quotation by an unknown author from What Is Success? aptly describes George - “He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men, the trust of pure women and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it; whether by an improved flower, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who has looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory is a benediction.”
In accordance with George’s wishes no visitation, a private family service was held at Hillside Funeral Services with cremation following. If you wish, in lieu of donations, George would be pleased if you would do something special for someone you love, like send them flowers or take them to lunch!
It was also his philosophy, that happiness was when you have someone to love, something to look forward to and something you care about to be involved in every day. We knew he was happy, and for those of us who loved him we feel very thankful to have been able to share his life.
