A former resident of Halifax for 40 years, Gene passed away suddenly at his home in Sarasota, FL, on January 20, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Matheson) of Cape Breton; daughter, Bonnie Punch (Sean) of Montreal, QC; and son, Rob of London, U.K.
Gene served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 38 years, having entered the service through HMCS Venture (Class of 1958). He obtained his aviator's wings after completion of flight training in Pensicola, FL, in 1960. He served aboard many ships and on shore positions in Halifax during his career. He worked with the Queen's Harbour Master following retirement from the RCN in 1994. He and Gloria retired to Florida in 1998.
Gene was a graduate of St. Mary's University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, major in Business. Gene spent 10 years as a Scout Leader with the 3rd Rockingham section, earning his Woodbadge One and Two in both Pack and Troop. He received his 10-year award in 1988.
A family Celebration of Life was held in Sarasota on January 25th.
